Litter Sweep

Litter Sweep 2021

The City of Lowell is registering volunteers for a street litter cleanup event on Saturday, April 17, 2021. Registration closes on Thursday, April 15, 2021.

This is an opportunity to help keep our community beautiful and keep our waterways clean while enjoying the outdoors. Did you know that street litter often washes down storm drains, which in turn pollutes our rivers and streams? That pollution can eventually affect our drinking water once it enters into our local watersheds!

Not only does this event help keep our waterways clean and keep our streets looking good, but it lines up with NCDOT's semi annual Litter Sweep.

Registration is available online through April 15, 2021. Volunteers will meet at Lowell City Hall at 9 a.m. for check-in. Walk-up registration is also welcome the morning of the event. A limited number of trash grabbers and vests are available for loan to individuals that pre-register. Those who pre-register will receive a boxed lunch at the event.

Disposable gloves, trash bags, instructions and maps to cleanup sites will be provided at check-in. Participants are encouraged to bring reusable work gloves and a reusable water bottle to reduce waste. Supplies must be returned to the check-in site by 12pm.

The safety of volunteers, residents and staff is the highest priority. All event staff will wear face coverings. All participants must be at least 12 years of age. Participants are required to wear a face covering at the check-in location when picking up or returning supplies.
